How do I find a dent on my car with my phone?

What is a light board for dent detection?
A light board — sometimes called a line board or reflector board — is a striped panel used in paintless dent repair (PDR) to make dents visible. The stripes reflect in the car's paint, and any distortion in the reflected lines reveals a dent. DentScanner recreates this tool on your phone screen.
Can I use it to check for hail damage?
Yes. Hail dents are shallow and nearly invisible head-on, which is exactly what a light board is for. Sweep the stripes across the roof, hood, and trunk lid — the reflection warps over every hail dent.
How is this different from a real PDR light board?
Same principle — striped light read through its reflection in the paint. A phone screen is smaller than a shop light board, so you work panel by panel, but it's always in your pocket and needs no stand, cords, or power.
Do I need any extra equipment?
No. Your phone screen is the tool. It works best on clean, glossy panels in even lighting.
Does it work indoors or at night?
Yes — often better. The reflection reads clearest when the screen is the brightest light source on the panel, so a shaded garage or evening light is ideal.
Does DentScanner use my camera or upload photos?
No. DentScanner only uses your screen as a light source — nothing is photographed or uploaded, and scans never leave your device.
Which vehicles does it work on?
Any vehicle with glossy painted panels — cars, trucks, motorcycles. Matte or heavily textured finishes reflect poorly and won't show the stripe pattern clearly.
